Music Theory
This will be a place for me to talk about some really fun stuff: music theory.
In the popular imagination, understanding the topic of music theory is daunting. I’m guessing this is because of the way it’s taught. Here, I will begin with the utter basics of music and then, I hope, I’ll talk about some of the more advanced stuff.
What makes me qualified to write about this? I have degrees in Music Theory, I taught Fundamentals of Music for over 20 years (designed to introduce music to non-musicians), and I also taught some Music Theory (for musicians). As a student, I’ve taken way too many music theory classes (Form and Analysis, Historical Music Theories, 20th Century Music Theory…).
I’ll go slow and be thorough. Let’s also have fun.
